At Tanagra, we celebrate the region’s rich cultural heritage and the contemporary creative voices carrying it forward. Through design, craftsmanship, materiality and storytelling, traditions are reinterpreted for today, creating a dialogue between the past and the present, while reflecting the distinctive identities of the Middle East.

In Kuwait, Tanagra collaborates with Khaled Alawadhi of Forty Twelve, whose work brings a contemporary Middle Eastern perspective to design. Through sculptural forms, thoughtful material choices and modern functionality, Khaled creates pieces that feel minimal yet expressive, reflecting a design language shaped by the culture and visual sensibilities of the region.

01.OBJ/DTWT Dining Table

OBJ/DTWT is the first in a series of objects by Khaled Al Awadhi from fortytwelve, a boutique architecture and interior design practice in Kuwait. The series carries the studio's interest in clarity, function and material detail out of interiors and into pieces that can be built and used on their own.

The table is a solid walnut top on two blade legs, 2 m by 1 m. Along the near edge the top opens into steel: three stainless steel drawers, 50 mm deep, and a well, covered by a frosted glass lid. Closed, it is a dining table. Open, it is where the work is.

Cutlery is kept where it is used, at the edge of the table rather than across the room. The glass sits over the drawers so the surface stays one plane whether they are full or empty; frosted, it gives back only the outline of what is inside. The well takes what the hour asks for: ice for bottles, storage, or a sunken area for display.

Nothing is applied to the surface. Every part of it either carries the top, stores something, or closes over what is stored.
